Letter from President Don Williams
Dear Neighbor,
As the President of Herring Ponds Watershed Association, a Plymouth non-profit organization concerned with water quality and preserving the environment, I’m asking you to please consider helping us while investing in your future and that of future generations. We are hosting a fundraising Gala for land acquisition.
2026 HPWA Fundraising Gala for the Land Acquisition Fund
Sunday, September 27th, 4pm to 7pm
Bournedale Function Facility, 110 Valley Road, Plymouth
How you can support this worthy effort:
1) Buy tickets and attend this spectacular event.
2) Make a cash donation directly to our Land Acquisition Fund (no amount too small).
3) Donate a product or service for our Gala’s raffle prizes.
4) Donate an item for our Gala’s silent-auction.
Where your contributions will go:
All proceeds will be added to our Land Acquisition Fund, currently $4,000, designated to help the Town of Plymouth purchase undeveloped land for preservation. Land acquisition is one of our plans to protect the water quality in our ponds and groundwater. All our studies and research indicate phosphorus is the primary cause of cyanobacteria blooms which can produce harmful toxins. The primary source of phosphorus is septic systems. Preserving land through conservation means fewer septic systems in our watershed, less phosphorus.
How our Land Acquisition Fund works:
We have created a successful partnership with the Town of Plymouth. When a tract of land is identified for possible conservation in our watershed, HPWA will make a contribution toward its purchase. In the past, HPWA contributions led to much larger Town of Plymouth contributions that enabled the Town to acquire the land for conservation. Great examples where HPWA partnered with the Town to purchase land (both were in consideration for development and are now preserved forever):
- Commassakumkanit tract – approximately 80-acre – Total price: $802,000, HPWA contribution: $48,000
- Alper Preserve – approx.48-acre – Total price: $400,000, HPWA contribution: $100,000
The Quality of water in our town is important as it affects our property values, quality of life, and health. HPWA needs your help to protect our environment.
Thank you,
Don Williams
President, Herring Ponds Watershed Association
