Enjoy a Boat Ride on Great Herring Pond
By Jack Kedian, Water Quality Co-Chair
We are so fortunate to be living here in the Herring Ponds Watershed. It is an environment that numerous people would love to take advantage of.
One of the ways many of us enjoy our time here during warm weather is boating on Great Herring Pond. Many of us who have watercraft love to cruise around the pond enjoying the scenery. The HPWA board would like to give some of our members who don’t have access the opportunity to enjoy the pond as well.
Please accept our offer to join us on the water during the summer. We will be scheduling a series of boat trips on the pond for HPWA members starting on Tuesday July 11th at 4PM weather permitting. If Mother Nature gives us a problem there will be a rain date the following Thursday. We plan to continue the trips every Tuesday during the summer. The trip around the pond normally takes about an hour so we will have time to get together with a few old friends and possibly make some new ones.
One week we may be treated to a sailboat regatta from the Mass Maritime Academy. Another time we may see signs of their training program on scale model tankers and freighters. Seeing many of the beautiful homes on the pond is a treat particularly when we are able to relate some of their history.
We would also be happy provide more details about some of the various sampling and testing programs that HPWA provides during the late spring, summer and early fall. It is our number one priority to help make the water as clean and safe as possible.
The trips are limited to HPWA members and are first come, first serve since we have limited numbers of boats. If you would like to join us please send an e-mail to Jack Kedian at jkedian1@hotmail.com. He will confirm details and answer any questions you may have.
Thanks for being an HPWA member. Looking forward to having you join us on the pond this summer.
This new initiative sounds wonderful, especially for HPWA members who do not have a boat or other access to GHP.
That’s very thoughtful. Thank you for including those of us who don’t have boats.
Hi Jack! this sounds Awesome!
