Herring Fest Returns
By Tess Goldman
Make sure to practice your stream-swimming and predator-dodging skills, because our Herring Run Obstacle Course will be returning to this year’s Plymouth Herring Run Festival. The Fest will again be held at the Plimoth Grist Mill and along Town Brook Park on Saturday, April 20th from 10am to 3pm.
Our obstacle course allows kids of all ages to experience the difficulties of being a herring making their way to their breeding location, having them crawl over dams, under litter, and up a fish ladder before dropping off their ping pong ball ‘eggs’ and sliding all the way back to the ocean. Even adults can get in on the fun!
The Herring Fest will also feature food trucks, live music, real scientists, and more! NOAA Fisheries Biologist Eric Hutchins has even confirmed that the herring themselves will be present at the event. To learn more visit Manomet event page.
We are always in need of many volunteers to help us on the day of the fest. If you have a couple of hours to help us set up (8-10am), pack up (3-4pm), assist obstacle course users, or talk to individuals about what HPWA does (anytime between 10am -3pm), please contact Education Committee chair Tess Goldmann at her email, tessgoldmann@aol.com.
Hope to see you there!
