Watershed Action Alliance of Southeastern MA Conference
On March 29, 2019, Water – New England’s Next Big Challenge will be held at the Needles Lodge at Camp Kiwanee in Hanson, MA. Every other year, this affordable conference provides information about and solutions to critical watershed health challenges in southeastern MA. This year’s topics include water quality and quantity; the future of water in New England, and taking action to protect water.Alex Mansfield , Ecology Program Director at the Jones River Watershed Association, will moderate the first session on the intersections of water quantity and water quality. Speakers for his session include Joanne Zygmunt, Commissioner for the Central Plymouth County Water District Commission, and resident of Brockton who will discuss what water regulations mean to the resident at the faucet. Eric Walberg, Senior Leader of the Climate Services Program at Manomet, Inc. will introduce and moderate the session on the future of water.Cheryl King Fischer, member of Plymouth Town Meeting, will facilitate the taking action session. Other speakers include Heidi Ricci of Mass Audubon, Sara Burns of The Nature Conservancy, and Bill Napolitano of SE Regional Planning and Economic Development District. Alex Hackman of the MA Division of Ecological Restoration will present the plenary talk, and each WAA member watershed association, including Herring Ponds, will do a short presentation on its work.
