Butterfly and Insect Walk Saturday
June 15, 2024
Tired? Stressed? Unhappy? Stop and smell the roses! Or, in this case, observe the insects.
Research shows that slowing down our lives to appreciate beauty in “little things” can add tangible benefits. These include less daily distress and greater positive emotions, such as compassion, amusement, and joy.
If you want to find a way to exercise, relax, and reconnect with nature, then we can think of no better way than joining our HPWA insect walk on Saturday, June 15th at 10am in Myles Standish State Forest guided by Blake Dinius, Plymouth County Entomologist.
E.O. Wilson referred to insects as “the little things that run the world.” There are myriad ways that insects connect us to the natural world: as pollinators, as decomposers, as living works of art.
Massachusetts is home to over 100 species of butterfly, as well as over 160 species of dragonfly and damselfly. And, there are countless more types to be found.
If you want to get more out of life without spending more, then join us!
We will spend time meandering through the woods, observing, learning, and appreciating the many creatures that serendipitously join us.
- This will be a slow-paced nature walk with frequent stops
- No experience necessary; Just arrive with an open mind
- We will identify any insects that come our way
- We will also discuss the many ways that insects behave in the natural world
On Saturday morning, June 15th at 10am we’ll meet in Parking Lot 2 on Upper College Pond Rd. in Myles Standish State Forest.
